Preparation
Preparation to the Tournament started on 19-20th of October, 2007 with the training camp for both U20 and U18 teams in Reykjavik. On that training camp all 30 players were welcome to take part. All players had a chance to show their skills on the ice. Two ice practices were done. Mostly attention was paid to the games. Next try-out took part in Egilshöllin on 11-13th of January, 2008, were 30 players were invited. During that training camp all the players were tested (see attached documents) off-ice as well as had 3 on-ice practices. Most of the attention went to individual skills, 1x1 situation, and reading the game in different situations. Control Break out was tried during that camp. After the camp 25 players were named for last training camp, which took part in Akureyri, Egilshöllin on 8-10th of February. Because of the weather we were not able to leave Reykjavik on Thursday and had to cut the training camp down to 2,5 days. During that camp team went over playing system like break-outs, forecheck, Power Play situation. One game against Senior national team was played (2-12 lost, but the first line up tied up its microgame). The 20 players were named (see the attached document). In the end, 1 ice practice was done before a departure day. Got into conflict between Egilshöllin and Björninn. Egilshöllin told the club, that the club has no right to use its ice time for national teams. It would be good to have clear rules regarding that for the next year.
2. Tournament
Turkey Ísland (white)
12-2
The team prepared well for the game and using their skills wins the game without any problems. But the start of the game was not as good as we would like to have - Turkey scored the goal first - Third line was on ice. The 3rd line got another goal against later one playing 3-5, and I think it mostly came because of luck of experience. After that Egill picked it up and scored important goal to get back into the game. MANY penalties were taken by each team during the whole game. Mostly because referee did not know what he is doing there on ice. Turkish team was much less skilled and had not enough conditions to keep up. Good game had Egill, which scored 6 goals, and he was named as the best player of the team.
Serbia Ísland (white)
0-4
This game was supposed to decide, which team will receive the gold medals of the tournament. The game was played at 15:30 and we skipped the pregame skating, because it was too early (by that day all the boys got used to morning running and stretching). We have done the same and also went for walk before lunch (it was at 11:45). The boys were ready to play. IN the middle of first period second line got the goal against (Andri Þór did not pick his farside man on the forcheck). In the second period misunderstanding beetwen Ævar and Orri with Siggi costed us a simple rebound and a second goal. 0-2 after second period. Couple good body checks from Orri and a good shot into the post did not help us to get back into the game. 3rd goal was scored to us on Penalty killing with a rebound again. The 4th goal was scored after Arni Freyr lost clearly 1x1 on open ice. Not enough shots, bad discipline on forecheck and too polite character of the forwards
Ísland (blue) - Bulgarie
13-1
There were no problems in that game, except the first period, when only Egill (again) was ready to play and scored 2 goals in the second part of the period. Mattias and Andri Þór showed pretty bad game and were changed into Arnar Bragi and Tomas. It is understandable with Mattias. He had pain in his leg all the tournament and tried to do the best. But Andri Þór should perform better. Younger boys born 92 showed very good hockey and scored their goals: Ólafur Hrafn, Tomas, Gunnar (whit fancy fake of the goalie). Glad for them.
Ísland Armenia
23-0

Total summary
The team ended up on the 2nd place in the tournament after Serbian. The aim of the tournament to go up to Division 2 was not achieved. We had good team with a lot of potential players, which are able to play on the highest levels. Lack of defensive work and playing discipline shows many things to improve. Open ice 1x1 and controlling the rebounds. The discipline in the group was very good. All the players have had morning warm daily with special groups culture fun activities.
In total all the personal, Arni Geir- team manger, Þórmoður equipment manager, Gauti doctor, Jón Gislasson assistant coach, have had help to all the players a lot and kept the whole group in a good positive surround. 1 goalie, 2 defensmen and 3 forwards born 89 were the last year in the team and will have to be replaced buy other players.

Future goals
- of course the goal for us is to move up to 2nd division and stay there. Right now many players born 90 leave the team and not so many players who are born 1991 will be left. But there are very good players born 92, which needs still quality coaching and guide ness during the whole season. I believe the weight lifting program should be done by all the coaches, which works with these players, as well as other conditioning training off-ice. This will help the boys to be ready to play on higher level.
- The federation should keep up putting the weekend try-outs and training camps during the season.
- Since the roomers say that one of the ice arenas will be open during the summer, I would suggest to the IHI to set up the training camp for the players U18 years old. It should be normal training camp with off-ice and on ice practice daily. Some players are going to Sweden and Finland for training camps anyway. Why dont we do it for them here, in Reykjavik or Akureyri. At this moment, we have about 40-50 players, which were taking part and should compete for the spots in teams U20 and U18. (See the attachment). For example, this year we could start up with 1 week only and try to move to 2 weeks next summer 2009.
- After that the clubs should start their training camps for the kids and practices inside of their 2 and MFLs.
Example of training camp:
Dates: 27. júlí 2. ágúst
Dagskrá: 2 x 2 hour practices on ice daily, 1 hour of gym daily, conditioning training, lections regarding the food habits, tobako habits, healty lifestyle.
Coaching: 1 Icelandic coach, 1 coach from Sweden or Finland, goalie coach
Costs: ÍBR pays for the ice times and gym. Akureyri players stay in Egilshöllin or Cabin hotel. All the players have right to have lunch and rest after first part of the day in Egilshöllin or Cabin hotel. The costs for players from Akureyri and players from Reykjavik are divided between the players, which are invited to take part in the camp. Coaching stuff is paid by the federation. (See the example of financial plan in the attachment).
After that training camp the players should continue to prepare for the season in their own clubs.
- check out the opportunity for players U16 to go to IIHF training camps during the summer (Vierumjaki). The IIHF used to put up these kind of camps , where all the countries could take part in
- go on with U20 league, which give the players a big push as well.
